Regional School Unit 40
Elementary and Secondary Education Act

Home School Compacts

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 has brought many changes to our schools. One of those changes is the requirement that schools, parents, and students work together as a team to help all students in the Title I program succeed. MSAD#40 believes that this teamwork should be part of every student’s education.

The MSAD#40 Board of Directors recently passed Policy KBF which asks schools to come together annually to develop a Home-School Compact. This compact outlines the responsibilities of schools, parents, and students in helping children learn.

On Tuesday March 30, 2004 representatives from each of our elementary and middle schools gathered at Miller School in Waldoboro to draft a district Home-School Compact.

Student Pledge
I realize that my education is important to me. It helps me develop the tools I need to become a happy and productive person. I also understand that my parent(s) and teacher(s) want to help me do my very best in school. I know I am the one responsible for my own success, and that I must work hard to achieve it. Therefore, I agree to carry out the following responsibilities to the best of my abilities:
I will communicate by asking for help when I need it.
I will insist upon my personal best by being prepared for class, being an active listener, putting forth my best effort and completing all my work (including homework). I will have a positive can-do attitude.
I will keep myself safe by following school rules. I will arrive at school on time every day unless I am ill.
I will treat other students and teachers with respect. I will treat others the way I would like to be treated.

Parent Pledge
Parents and family are a child’s first and most important teachers. To encourage my child’s learning and success in school, I agree to carry out the following responsibilities to the best of my ability:
I will communicate with the school by checking in often, reading what comes home, and participating in school activities whenever possible. I will attend parent teacher conferences.
I will meet my child’s basic needs by sending him/her to school on time each day prepared for learning (clean, well-rested, fed, with a positive attitude and the necessary school supplies). I will provide a quiet place for my child to study and check homework daily to be sure that my child has completed it to the best of his or her ability.
I will treat my child and his/her teachers with respect.
I will support the school’s high expectations for my child’s behavior and learning.
